2021 – A Brand New Year

Art created with FOREVER Artisan 6

How many years have you made resolutions, and then three weeks into the year, they are long forgotten? I’ve done it a few times, that’s for sure.

So this year, I’m not making resolutions; I’m making a plan. To say that there were a few things that I didn’t like about 2020 would be an understatement, so I want to change some of the things that I can.

My plan;

  • Complete the scanning project I started. Last year I realized that one of the scanners I’d used to scan my parent’s photos had a problem and was putting a line on my scans. So I am rescanning the photos that were affected. Completion date – January 31st, 2021.
  • I’ve been creating a book for my family history, but I want to ramp up my process. I know there is Amy Johnson Crows – 52 weeks 52 Ancestors program, but I’m not sure I can commit to that. Remember, when you set goals, you need to make your goals SMART. So I’m committing to writing about an ancestor every two weeks. So that’s 26 ancestors by the end of 2021. I also commit that if I write about more than one ancestor in a two week period, they are bonus ancestor and can’t be used to defer writing in a future period.
  • Organize my photos in my FOREVER account for 15 minutes each day. This could also help with my previous goal for my family history book.
  • Continue to ramp up my DNA education. How am I going to do that? Although I’ve been working with DNA since 2010, and I’ve trained with some of the leaders in genetic genealogy, there’s always something you can learn. I have two books that I’ve purchased; Genetic Genealogy in Practice and Advanced Genetic Genealogy: Techniques and Case Studies. I purchased the first book several years ago and the second last year with the idea to read them and do the exercises. But I only started the first one… I tend to have BSOS (Bright Shiny Object Syndrome), so this is more about finishing something I started. So I am committing to having both books completed by the end of 2021.

That’s it.. that’s what I’m committing to. What are you committing to in 2021? Remember when you set your goal to make your goal; specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound (SMART).

I’ll be tracking my process each month on this blog. By doing so I can ensure that I follow through with my plan. I will also be posting this blog and follow-ups on the Hound on the Hunt Facebook page. If you’re on Facebook you can commit to your plan by commenting on the posts. (be sure to change the settings to favorite the page to ensure you won’t miss a post).

I hope you’ll join me with your plan for 2021.
