Spring is in the air

Well it’s finally here…. SPRING and it couldn’t come a moment to soon.  I know we went on daylight saving time (well most of us) just over a week ago. But until we get the official go ahead from Mother Nature it’s not spring.

Spring always reminds me of my Mom doing spring cleaning. Not just at home,  but at the cabin we had at Lac La Nonne. Spring cleaning was a family affair for our family,  but also for my Auntie Edna and Uncle Arne’s family; as they stayed at our cabin for many years.  Spring cleaning meant everyone and I mean everyone getting up on Saturday and cleaning the place from top to bottom. Every dish was taken out of the cupboard, every bed was stripped, furniture was moved and every corner was vacuumed. My cousin even reminded me that all the sofas were taken outdoors and beaten with a broom.

It was a lot of work and to this day I wonder how dirty dishes really get when they are in the cupboard? And if they do get dirty wouldn’t it be just the top one? I’m sure I question my mom on this logic when I was growing up but all that didn’t matter because it was a job that had to be done.

When I decided to write this blog I asked my brother and my cousins about what they remembered about spring cleaning. Needless to say there was a lot of banter on Facebook about who did most of the work. Ok, it was my brother; Craig taking most of the credit.

Then a discussion broke out about how the holes got in the wall of Craig room. It’s obvious that many of the cousins were aware of these holes but I didn’t recall them. That’s probably because I was cleaning, being the “golden child” that I was. Anyway the true story came out that my brother Craig woke one night only to find our brother; Ted and his friend; Brian Keirnan up to tricks. Seems that Ted was trying to… dare I say, fart on Craig head. Craig went into defense mode and managed to put his foot through the wall. Ted, Brian, and Craig proceeded to put masking tape over the pale colored wall to cover the hole. Then Craig or Ted did the spring cleaning of that room for the next 8-10 years to avoid the wrath of mom. My mom only ended up seeing the damage when we moved the cabin to another lot because my parents were building their new home.

Family stories are fun and just asking one question like I did can bring back so many memories for everyone.
