Have you heard the latest news that you can again transfer your AncestryDNA or 23andMe raw data to Family Tree DNA and it’s FREE? Free and not just for 20 matches but for all your matches.
So if you have one of the following types of kits your able to do a transfer.

- AncestryDNA™ V1
- AncestryDNA™ V2
So what’s involved when you transfer? Here are the blow-by-blow instructions for AncestryDNA.
First, go to your AncestryDNA account. Then up in the right-hand corner, you’ll see a little cog for your settings.
Here you are able to do several things; including, set how often you’ll receive your DNA updates, set your privacy, link your tree, update your participant’s information and invite other users to your results. But what we’re looking for is on the right side of the page. Here you’ll see under actions a button called; Download Raw DNA data.
Click that button and next you’ll see the box below. Enter your password and check-off that you understand what you’re doing and Ancestry will send your raw data file to the email associated with your account.
The next step is to go to your email and click on the email that Ancestry has sent you.
Now you’re set, confirm the data download and you’ll be taken to a screen like this where all you have to do is click to download your raw data.
When you click this button you will then be sent a zipped dna-data file. You’ll find this in your download folder. Now you’re ready to transfer to Family Tree DNA. So go to Family Tree DNA and then under the tab, DNA test you’ll see Autosomal Transfer.
You’ll then be taken to a sign-up page.
Set up your account and then you’re ready to transfer.
Now all you have to do it browse your files and retrieve the raw data file that you received from AncestryDNA. Click on the file and, it will start the download process (it may take a couple of minutes). Click submit, and you will be taken to a congratulation screen. Be sure to write down your kit # for your files and for future reference. You’ll be sent an email to the email you provided when you set up your account. Before you’re able to access your matches you will need to sign the release form.
Phewwww you made it. But it’s worth the effort. Now you will see all your matches and even see who you have in common with up to 10 matches. If you want to receive full access to your DNA which includes the Chromosome Browser, myOrigins, and ancientOrigins the cost is only $19. But you can decide to do that when you feel you want that additional information.
