I’m counting the days until RootsTech and it’s coming fast.. only 48 days (as of today) until it begins. If you’re on the fence about going then let me tell you about the lineup of keynote speakers.
March 1, 2018, Brandon Stanton
I’ll have to be honest I’ve never heard of Brandon but after reading about him I’m interested to know more. In 2010 he started a photography and storytelling blog called; “Humans of New York”. With over 20 million followers I think he has to be doing something amazing and I was right when I checked the site and read so many stories. Stories about people from not just New York but from all over the world. If you’d like to check out his site you can click Here.
March 2, 2018, Scott Hamilton
I remember when Scot Hamilton won gold for figure skating in 1984. Since that time he’s accomplished even more. He’s a cancer survivor, television broadcaster, motivational speaker and author. But if that doesn’t sound like enough in 2014 he launched the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation which supports not only cancer research but better patient care and treatment.
March 3, 2018, Natalia Lafourcade and Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Again I wasn’t familiar with Natalia Lafourcade’s music so I watched a few YouTube videos to familiarize myself. I’m starting to think I need to get out there and do more surfing about something other than genealogy. She has a real musical talent and from what I understand a love of family. I’ll be interested to hear more.
Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is someone who I’m very familiar with and I’m the most excited to hear in person. I’ve watched every episode of his program Finding Your Roots. I love his casual style when speaking with the celebrities. That’s not the only thing he’s done, he’s an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, literary scholar and journalist and something I didn’t know, has co-authored 22 books.
If the keynote speakers haven’t convinced you then perhaps the classes will. The RootsTech Schedule can be found Here and is searchable several ways; the level of experience, the kind of pass you have, room and category. So if you’re looking for something on #DNA for beginners you’re covered.
You can register for RootsTech Here
You can go early and enjoy not on RootsTech but all the other sights of Salt Lake or be like me and hunker down in the Family History Library. I keep a running list of things I need to view when I get there. I hope to see you at #RootsTech
