If you’re like me you have things around your home that you might deem family heirlooms. Some may be valuable but some are just things you love and are priceless to you. In fact, there was a time that I had a conversation with my son, Jason where I told him if something were to happen to me don’t just throw the things out in my cabinet because there were things that had been handed down in the family. At the time, he asked, “How would I know that?” I realized that was a fair question. How would he know that? That’s when I came up with the idea for this book.
I could create a book capturing all the photos of the “family heirloom” and I could tell the story of the item and the people I received them from. If I wanted I could go so far as to say who I wanted to receive the item if I passed away before I gave it away. But I think the most important thing about this book is that you capture the stories, and when you do have to downsize and give these special things away, then you’d still have the book as a memory.
October is Family History month, and every Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Mountain, you can join me on Zoom where we can create this family heirloom book together. Of course, I’m going to use FOREVER, and I hope you do too.
I will be using FOREVER Artisan for my book, but you can also use the template at the FOREVER store. I’m using Artisan because it gives me the flexibility to choose different sizes of books, and I can use some of the embellishments and art that I’ve purchased. If you don’t have Artisan and decide to purchase it, there is a bit of a learning curve but I can help you and it’s great for other projects. (be sure to use the discount coupon on the DEALS page.)
Several templates lend themselves to the creation of your book. One that I think would be good is the Modern and Natural Yearbook . It allows you to choose a soft cover or a hard one, and there are several different sizes of books to choose from. There are other books so have a look around but just be sure you choose a style that has at least one page of text. When you look at the templates, you don’t have to use all the pages, so as long as you see pages that you can put photos in and a text page you’ll be ok. Don’t worry if there are pages that don’t seem appropriate because you don’t have to use those as long as you have enough that work for you.
So what do you have to do? You’ll need to register HERE, and then in the time before October 4th, you’ll need to take photos of at least 10 items. You can take more pictures of course, but with 10 photos and the stories that go with those photos, you’ll be well on your way to the basic 21-page book. Then upload them to an album in your FOREVER account. This just makes it easier to find your photos. If you need help with that, just let me know. You don’t have to write the stories, but if you feel inclined, you can start.
Please accept my invitation if you don’t have a FOREVER account. You’ll receive 2GB of FOREVER Storage to store your photos and $20 to spend in the next 60 days. You could even use it to print your book if you get it done within 60 days. (wink, wink) By accepting my invitation, you will be linked with me as your Ambassador, and that’s perfect because I love helping my customers. The invite is HERE.
Here’s the schedule for the month
- On October 4th, we will discuss choosing a template or setting it up in Artisan. We’ll also discuss how you can record and add QR codes to your book.
- On October 11, 18, and 25, we will get together and chat about our project, have some laughs, and generally hang out and work on our projects. This is perfect because sometimes, you never get the task done if you don’t commit to a time.
I’ve already created a couple of pages for my book as examples, so have a look.
I hope you’ll join me on October 4th and work on your Family Heirloom book during Family History Month. You can register HERE.
