Happy Anniversary To Me

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of this blog, Hound on the Hunt.

When I looked at the numbers (because if you want to change your numbers, you need to know your numbers), I discovered I’ve written 609 blog posts. That might not sound like a lot, but it averages out to one post a week for ten years—and I’m pretty happy with that.

Lately, I’ve been putting more focus on my YouTube channel, and I’d love it if you checked it out. I’ve created 138 videos so far, all on topics close to my heart: genealogy, genetic genealogy, and preserving your photo and digital legacy. What I enjoy about video is that it allows me to show you what I mean, not just tell you.

Of course, striking the right balance between blog writing, YouTube videos, and staying on top of housework (bah ha ha… housework 😆) is always a work in progress!

But here’s the bottom line: After 10 years, I still love what I do. I genuinely enjoy helping people discover their stories and solve their mysteries.

The experts will tell you to focus on just one thing for the algorithm’s sake. Honestly, I’m not here for the algorithm. I’m here for you. If you need help or have questions, I want to be the person who helps you figure things out.

Because being a genealogist isn’t just one thing.

We start with collecting names, dates, and stories. Then, if you’ve been at this a while—like I have—DNA came along, giving us powerful tools to prove our trees or unlock family mysteries (like the Beaton Batten Mystery in my own family). And if you’re the family historian, you’re probably also the keeper of the photos—the albums, the snapshots, and the treasures cousins so generously share.

That’s what Hound on the Hunt is all about: embracing every part of the genealogist’s journey.

Thanks for coming along on the ride. Here’s to the next chapter. 🐾
