Recently, one of my friends posted that they had lost 65 lbs since the beginning of 2025. It wasn’t because they’d undergone a medical intervention; instead, they had chosen to eat different foods, eat smaller portions, and start exercising. I thought that sounds simple, I’m going to try it. I’ve followed that this week and have already lost 2 lbs.
I know that 2 lbs is probably water weight, but sometimes it’s just about a thought that gets you thinking a different way. Slow and steady is a good approach, and if I continue to be mindful of this, who knows where I’ll be in 9 months or 1 year.
So that brings me to one of my favorite subjects. Organizing your photos.
I run a group called Getting Organized With The Family History Hound (come join, but remember to answer the questions), and one of the answers I see to the question I ask, “What is your current challenge?” Is that they are overwhelmed.
Feeling overwhelmed can stop you in your tracks and bog you down. When you feel like that, you need to breathe and put on some blinders. Don’t look at everything you need to do; just focus on one part. What can you do today in 15 minutes? You might be thinking 15 minutes is nothing, but if you did this every day for a year, you would put in over 91 hours on your photos. 91 hours is a bit of time, and I’m sure you’d feel a lot less overwhelmed.
I’ve used this approach for several years, and I’m in a better place concerning my photos. I have all my things uploaded to FOREVER. Are they perfect… heck no… but there are there, and they will be preserved for the rest of my life and for 100 years, and my sons are the beneficiaries of my account (whether they want them or not LOL jk). I even have all my genealogy there, and whether my sons are interested or not, I have my settings on my account so that they will be available to the public after I die.
So the moral of the story is whether it’s about your weight or your photos. Slow and steady can win the race. Be kind to yourself and try 15 minutes a day. Let me know where you are in one year.
Disclosure: I am a FOREVER Senior Ambassador, and I help people organize their photos, videos, audio, and genealogy. I have weekly “office hours” that you can attend to ask questions on how to use FOREVER. I don’t just have clients, I have clients that are friends. If you’d like to try FOREVER, please accept myย invitation. You’ll receive 2GB of FOREVER Storage to try, $20 to spend on whatever you’d like, and you’ll be associated with me. I’ll be there to help you.

Great idea! Breaking things up into manageable pieces definitely makes things easier. Now I just need to do that myself! ๐
What a great idea for a group! And great motto. ๐
You’re welcome to join any time.
I don’t want to discourage you but a year later I am the same weight. I’m sure that won’t happen to me with my pictures though! Nice to see you at the Fair yesterday.
Joyce, It was great seeing you too on Saturday. You’re doing great with your digitizing and I’m ever hopeful with my weight being different. ๐
