RootsTech DNA Survival Kit – Going In Person or Virtual

RootsTech DNA Survival Kit: Going In Person or Virtual

RootsTech is an incredible opportunity for genealogists—especially when it comes to DNA. But with so many sessions, speakers, tools, and options, it can also feel overwhelming before you even get started.

One of the most common questions I hear is:
“What is RootsTech?”

It’s the largest genealogy conference in the world, and it’s where you’ll find your people. Well, that is to say, if you’re a genealogist, have an interest in DNA or family stories.

That’s why I created a short video called RootsTech DNA Survival Kit: Going In Person or Virtual.

In this video, I talk about:

  • The strengths of attending RootsTech virtually
  • The benefits of attending in person
  • How DNA learning fits differently into each experience
  • Why you don’t need to do everything to get real value
  • How to go in with a plan instead of feeling overwhelmed

This isn’t a technical DNA lesson. It’s about preparing your mindset, choosing sessions wisely, and setting realistic expectations so you walk away feeling confident—not confused.

Whether this is your first RootsTech or you’ve attended before, a little preparation goes a long way.

And if DNA is part of your genealogy journey (or puzzle), I’ve created a graphic that you can download at the Family History Hound Dog Park. You can copy and paste the one below, but if you would like a downloadable version, you’ll find it at the park for FREE HERE. Please explore the park; it offers classes and other resources on genealogy, DNA, and photo organization, with more to come. A portion of my earnings from all things at the park supports the blog, and I donate to the Alzheimer’s Society each month, because isn’t genealogy about preserving memories?
