Finch – A Self Care Pet That Just Might Help You

You know me, I’m all about finding tools that might help you (because they help me) get the things done that you want to get done. I have apps for walking challenges, for tracking my food, and for the Miracle Morning. Now I’ve found an app that helps me stay on track. It’s called Finch.

Finch is a “self-care pet” mobile app that gamifies mental wellness by having users care for a virtual bird (a Finch) by completing real-life self-care tasks and building positive habits. You’ll find it on the App Store on your smartphone. I’m not sure where I heard about it, but I’ve been using it for over a month, and as I learn more and more about it, it has become something that not only is fun, but it’s getting some of the tasks that I want to do daily off my “to-do list” and on to my complete list.

I’m only using the free version, and there is enough here that I’m not sure I’d progress to the paid version other than to support the people who created this. Before you tell me that I’m silly, hear me out. This is something you can not only do but also introduce your grandchildren to, and they could do it with you. As you can see from the task list below it’s made for children. No need to nag them about getting out of bed or brushing their teeth.

If you complete the tasks, you can earn rainbow stones that you can use to buy clothes, furniture, and travel for your pet. One final thing about this app for children is that if your children invite other children, they can’t communicate through the app; they can only send virtual things, such as a “Good Morning,” or a “High Five,” or an outfit, just to name a few.

But how is it going to help you? Because you can create your own tasks. So I have some like the one above to remind me to do “chair yoga” and to ride my bike, “work on my photos“, walk 6000 steps, and any number of other things I want to do. All these are gentle reminders of things I’d like to do today. Do I get them all done? Not always, but I get more done because I have my little checklist, and if I want to be reminded, it can do that too. I do have reminders to drink water… something that I forget to do.

Below is what the goal creator looks like. First, you give your goal a name. Then you add it to areas such as movement, nutrition, productivity, sleep, and balance, and you can add your own areas. I’ve created a Family History area where I can put any number of my genealogy goals.

At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the various areas; click them to get ideas. Then you tell it when you want it on your list: today, tomorrow, on a specific date and time, or any time. You can also ask it to remind you if you like, or just leave it quiet. I just use the notifications for those things I really want to remember to do. Then there is the repeat. So you can have one-off items that never repeat, or, if you click “does not repeat,” you can change to every day, just on weekdays, or custom, where you can say every second day or on a specific date.

Meanwhile, I’m collecting stones and dressing my finch, and I do have to say she’s pretty “styling” and has a funky little house, as you can see in the picture above.

You can also have a goal buddy (both working on the same goal alongside one another) or an accountability buddy (one friend sharing their goal with another).

There is so much more to this app, and I’m learning new things all the time. If you try it and find something you think I’d like, let me know.

I don’t receive anything for getting you to try it; I just think it’s a cute and fun way to get the tasks you want done finished, and it’s a great way to get that life balance that I’m looking for, and maybe you are too. You can join me via my link, and then we can connect.

Can we be friends on Finch? I picked a mystery egg just for you! Tap this link or use my friend code AXNXW7LC38 for a special reward! https://finch.go.link/kSk4s?adj_label=9FAVq
